Anna Gustafson is an award-winning reporter and editor who has more than a decade of experience in writing, editing and photographing for print and online publications across the country. Through breaking news articles, investigative series, long-form features, blog posts, and more, she has extensively covered politics, affordable housing, natural disasters, immigration, human trafficking, education, the arts, and much more.
Currently a full-time freelance journalist and writer, she most recently was the managing editor of Rapid Growth Media in Grand Rapids. Previously, she served as an editor at Corner Media, a news company operating seven websites covering Brooklyn; the editor-in-chief at The Forum; an editor at the Queens Chronicle; and a reporter at TimesLedger Newspapers. Prior to her time in New York City, Anna was the education editor and a reporter at TimesReview in Long Island, the education beat reporter at The Hour in Connecticut, and the lead reporter at The Pinedale Roundup in Wyoming.
Anna’s articles have received awards from various press organizations, including for her coverage of Hurricane Sandy, the travails of a candidate trying to make it onto the ballot without a party machine to back him, a murder trial, hospital closures, and more.
While reporting and editing have always been her top priorities, she has also worked to boost her publications’ social media presence, has created and written for political blogs and has mediated a number of political debates, including a Congressional debate between former U.S. Rep. Bob Turner and his Democratic opponent, Assemblyman David Weprin. (You can watch a video from that debate here.)
A recent transplant from Grand Rapids and New York City, Anna now lives in Muskegon, Michigan with her husband.
